the strange boys - be brave (2010)

With an expanded line-up featuring Seth Densham and Jenna Thornhill of Mika Miko and Darker My Love’s Tim Presley, Texas’s Strange Boys look to ever so slightly build upon the roots-garage template they’ve constructed over the course of several singles and an excellent debut full-length on In the Red.

OH YEAH m4a rip sorry.

the girls at dawn

OK so their a three piece and they live in Brooklyn. Anyone could have guessed that, and anyone could guess the first band that springs to mind to draw comparisons with.

But here you will find perfect 60s style pop/psychedelic bliss, courtesy of Captured Tracks

I've been posting properly for about a year now, and didn't really expect to get this far.

Thanks to everyone who’s posted on here I can’t remember everyone’s names but: Alex, Gina, Bammy, Jason and the others sorry!

I can see this blog dying out soon, come July when I start my Internship in London (thank god for telephone interviews!) it's not going to be a priority. We'll see.

Anyways check out this blog: http://inqb8tr.blogspot.com/

He was the first person to add nonameleeds onto a blogroll waaay back.

NO NEW YORK

No New York was released in 1978 on Antilles Records.

Came about when Brian Eno caught a few bands at some festival, and decided he wanted to "document" the "movement".

Contains: Contortions, Teenage Jesus, Mars and D.N.A.

If you haven't already, catch the film Kill Yr Idols.

veronica falls

Lets get on the band wagon.

Captured Tracks are pretty much my favourite label. They always seems to get it right. Veronica Falls sound pretty twee, and that's what you can expect here.

jay electronica

I felt compelled to post something about Jay Electronica purely because, he's pretty much the future of hip-hop. OK, so that's a pretty big statement I'm making, but I've failed to find anyone who can write like this guy.

He hasn't released a debut yet, but there's about 15 songs here, with the highlight probably being Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge). Check it out and if you like it get the collection here.

FUR - 3 Songs Sampler

Eric from Secret Station Records kindly sent me a few songs by FUR (recent pitchfork mention) and I'm seriously impressed.

It's really chilled/ laid back electronic music, definitely worth picking up if you get the chance. Strange Bliss sounds like something Steve Reich could have made.

COLD PUMAS

I've been into this band for a few weeks and really wanted to share them with everyone so i sent them a e-mail and they sent me a few songs so thanks goes to them.

"Proof of man" is currently unreleased, and "Jela" is on a 12" just released on
Hungry for Power records

They somewhere lie between HEALTH and Foals, but obviously have some kind of Krautrock influence.

Zola Jesus - Poor Sons 7"

I think most of us can understand why & how Zola Jesus easily equals amazing. I often like to refer to Nika Roza (Danilova) as the equivalent of a lo-fi post-punk Patti Smith. Some might agree & others might not. Die Stasi has made this available again, so if you missed out on it the first time around here's another chance to make it happen. Personally, I don't think Zola Jesus or Die Stasi can do any wrong; I've been completely satisfied with everything both have released thus far. Link

The Dictaphone - Controlled Meetings 7"

I've really been into The Dictaphone lately. Their cool sound merges the lo-fidelity of garage with post-punk's haunting energy & shadows. These guys also come from France (which has been unleashing a lot of cool bands/music throughout this entire past year). Sweet Rot Records put this out recently and with it continues to deliver from its vault more quality rock 'n roll for the jaded, initiated, & uninitiated alike. Copies are available from the label (postage paid). Very cool stuff.

MILLIONYOUNG - Sunndreamm EP

I got told to download this a few days ago, immediately I was blown away...and at first I though it sounded a little like Washed Out. Second listen and I'm thinking its textbook electro-pop and only wish it didn't arrive in the months when its dark at 4pm.

Shark Pants - Automatic Pinner 7"

The jumping jehosaphats of Shark Pants' new 7inch record juices the classic rock fruit & drops a bit of it into the rock 'n roll grease pop for which helps to ignite their bitchin' brand of garage punk ecstasy (I just said a mouthful, huh?). Don't let the kitten fool ya either. This was released on Dirt Cult records recently & is still available from the label. You should also check out their "Porno Snakehead" LP on Recess Records when you get a chance. Rockin'. P.S. I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. ♥Link

Kitty Little - Green Thumbs b/w Makin' It 7"

Some of you might have heard me mention in my blog a while or so ago about how fun Kitty Little are & how easily they could brighten up anyone's day. Those who don't, I kinda' just mentioned it again so no need to worry. This AOTU single (volume 5 in the series) is the band at their (many) best(s) & is gone via the label. The band only has a handful left (out of a pressing of 250), so the next copy could be anyone's gain. They're also working on a new split with Scientific Maps that's due out soon. Another cool one I can't wait to hear. Link

Nighty Night - Belle 7"

Nighty Night's "Belle" 7inch is the kind of record that quickly becomes your best friend on those electric stereo & headphone nights. Their Indie Pop raindrops of colorful melody & underground courage is the reason why I have 2 extra copies of this release. You can get one for yourself from either the band or Let's Pretend Records. Only 500 were pressed (400 on black vinyl, 100 on white). I'm happily looking forward to their next release.

Stolen Hearts - Heart Collector 7"

This next band's 7inch is really cool. It's been out a while now & I've been enjoying it since its release. The Stolen Hearts have a garage pop tunefulness that tends to hit the center of your musical core. Their songs are catchy, nostalgic, & sincere. Any fan of garage pop/power pop will enjoy this record. Copies of it are still available from Douchemaster, although I think by now very few quantities remain. If ya dig, head there & see.

Snake Flower 2 - Talk About It b/w Running From the Night 7"

Snake Flower 2 is another Northern California band. Some might have heard of 'em. For those who haven't, here's your chance. This 7inch single was released on Tic Tac Totally & is gone, gone. gone. You might be able to track it down somewhere if you're a vinyl fanatic like me. Good news, though. Their "Renegade Daydream" LP is still available, so check it out if you haven't already. It can be found at Tic Tac Totally as well. Snake Flower's psychedelic garage punk is pretty good stuff. Enjoy.

Spencey Dude & The Doodles - Flirting 7"

Spencey Dude & The Doodles are an amazing band. They're from San Francisco, California & play garage punk with a healthy dose of melody & pop. They remind me slightly of Happy Burger without the songs about fast food (although I wouldn't mind). Instead, they have fuzz filled fun with topics about flirting, fidelity, & guys with girl addictions. Good times. This just came out on Rob's House Records & is limited to a pressing of 700. Get it while it's hot.
